Bayside MLK Families,

We are so honored to have your child(ren) at Bayside MLK.  Thank you for trusting the education of your children to our team.  We take that responsibility seriously, and are continuing to improve our work on behalf of students.  For 2017-2018 there are some incredible improvements to our school, and we are very pleased to be able to offer enhanced services to you and your family as part of these improvements.

The efforts to help Bayside MLK become a true Community School are beginning to get results.  We have expanded our School Leadership Team to include key positions that will work with both students and families.  Our Parent Liaison, Felicia Younger (

We would like to request that you support our work by attending school events like Back to School Night, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and Open House as well as the many school assemblies and recognition events.  Additionally, we have opportunities throughout the year for parents to participate on a deeper level through Parent Classes, School Site Council, English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), Community Advisory Committee(CAC), and volunteer opportunities.  We truly value the contributions that parents and families make both at home and on behalf of the school.

We are going to emphasize the importance of Reading this year at Bayside MLK, and we would like to request your help.  Please set aside time each night to read with your child.  For younger students, reading to them/with them is critical to their development.  For older students, reading a book together, or the newspaper and talking about what you read emphasizes the importance of being informed and understanding our world.  Please encourage at least 20 minutes of reading each night with your child, every day of the week.  Our goal is to raise our reading scores by 20 percent this year, and we appreciate your help in making that happen for our students.

Finally, we request that everyone keep their contact and student information up to date with the front office.  We are going to be improving our communication with families and the community this year, and we want to be able to make sure that we can reach you.  Please let the office know your email, as well as your phone number, so that we can contact you with critical information.

Thank you again for your important contributions as a parent, and we look forward to partnering with your to educate your child.  Together, we can make a difference in the lives of every child.
